Ashtakoota Guna Milan Guide
Ashtakoota is the eight part guna milan system used in North Indian kundli matching. Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7 and Nadi 8 add up to 36 gunas. Families usually look for 18 or more, and read Nadi and Bhakoot with care.
How are the 36 gunas counted?
Each koota compares one quality of the two Moon nakshatras or rashis. Higher kootas carry more weight, which is why Nadi (8) and Bhakoot (7) get the most attention in rishta talks.
What score is good?
Below 18 is traditionally called low, 18 to 24 workable, 25 to 32 very good and 33 to 36 excellent. Many astrologers also weigh the full charts, not only the total.
