Families were taught to look for 18 or more. Many are easier in their minds at 24 or above. A 36 is rare and not a promise of a peaceful kitchen.
Nadi and Bhakoot carry 15 of the 36 points, so a handsome total can still hide a zero that elders will ask about. Bhakoot is zero when the rashis sit 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 apart, and it is one of the doshas most often set aside when the rashi lords are the same or friends. Nadi is zero when both people share Adi, Madhya or Antya, with classical exceptions such as the same rashi and different nakshatras. The score starts the conversation. Birth chart (janam kundli) matching and name matching answer different questions
This page uses both birth times. That gives a real Moon nakshatra, a pada, and a manglik check from the lagna and the Moon. If the time is missing, do not invent one. Use kundli matching by name (naam se kundli milan), and say clearly that Mangal dosha was not checked. A guessed time produces a confident chart that may be the chart of a different two-hour window.
After the gunas, look at the wedding calendar only if a date is actually being discussed. Guna milan does not pick a muhurat. The vivah muhurat 2026 list is the day's shortlist for Delhi, and a purohit still sets the lagna for the venue. Match the couple, then the day. The other way round is how families fall in love with a date and then panic about a score.

How many gunas are needed for marriage?
Traditionally 18 or more of 36 is considered a workable match, 25 and above very good. Families also look at Nadi, Bhakoot and manglik status together.
What if both are manglik?
Classically, when both partners are manglik the effect is considered balanced, so it is not counted against the match.
Can I match without birth time (janam ka samay)?
Yes, use kundli matching by name (naam se kundli milan). Birth time (janam ka samay) makes the nakshatra certain and adds manglik checking.
How many kundali gun should match?
Eighteen out of 36 is the traditional minimum families look for in Ashtakoota. A score from 18 to 24 is read as workable, 25 to 32 as very good, and 33 to 36 as excellent. Nadi (8) and Bhakoot (7) still need their own look, because a high total can hide a zero there. The number is a reference, not a yes or no about the relationship.
How much guna milan is good?
Above 18 is the line most North Indian families were taught. Many pandits are more comfortable at 24 or more, especially when Nadi and Bhakoot are not zero. Is kundli matching (kundli milan) important in love marriage?

How to increase gun milan?
You cannot honestly add points to a finished Ashtakoota score. The nakshatras are what they are. What you can do is read the cancellations: same or friendly rashi lords for Bhakoot, and the classical Nadi exceptions. Some families also weigh Graha Maitri more heavily when Nadi is low. Changing a name spelling does not change birth-chart guna milan.
